As the long summer holidays draw to a close, it’s time for English teachers and students to start thinking about the new school year. A new school year is an exciting time; it’s a new start and a great opportunity for change and development. At the beginning of a natural year, many people make New Year resolutions, so why not seize the opportunity to make some New School Year resolutions? Here are some ideas.
Take part in more professional development
In order to progress in your career as an English teacher, it’s essential that you continue to learn and keep up to date on the latest developments in the field. Exams Catalunya offers an extensive programme of seminars and events for English teachers starting in October with a series of grammar seminars aimed at newly qualified English teachers or teachers who want to brush up on their grammar.
Then in November the 4th Annual ELT Conference will be held in Barcelona. This will be your chance to hear plenary talk from experts in the field of ELT and take part in practical workshops where you’ll learn new ideas that you can then apply to your classroom.
The Exams Catalunya Teacher Support Programme events will take place all over Catalonia so keep checking the website to see what’s coming up!
Change is good
In order to make your classes more interesting, not only for you students, but also for yourself, why not try out some new ways of doing things? You could try to incorporate more technology into your classes or try out a new teaching technique you’ve never used before. You could even reorganize your classroom set up to encourage more communication. Aim to do something new every month to keep your classes fresh and dynamic! You’ll get plenty of ideas by attending our seminars.
Share with your colleagues
If you spend hours devising activities of making worksheets, why not set up a system within your school to share activities with your coworkers? This will save you time in the long run as you’ll have your own creations as well as those of your colleagues. This kind of initiative will encourage a creative culture within your school which can only be a good thing!
